The Honda Team Asia riders, Taiyo Furusato and Tatchakorn Buasri, faced the 17th round of the Moto3 World Championship at Phillip Island, Australia. This event marked the beginning of the three-weekend race series.

The first day began under challenging conditions, with heavy rain in the morning session, followed by a weather improvement in the afternoon. Japanese rider Taiyo Furusato finished 12th despite a crash during the second session, while Thai rookie Tatchakorn Buasri, at his first appearance on the Australian track, performed well, concluding the day in 20th place.

The qualifying was good for Furusato who, after being one of the fastest riders in Q1, got the 9th place in Q2, by increasing his confidence. Buasri had a challenging qualifying day, struggling with the strong winds. He closed 26th.

The race of Taiyo Furusato was impressive, with a series of overtakes and constant position changes which kept the excitement alive until the end. Taiyo was really competitive and fought for the podium until the last laps, when he lost some positions. He crossed the finishing line 7th but his performance remains commendable.
Meanwhile, Tatchakorn Buasri made progress, battling to enter the points zone and demonstrating improvement compared to his recent races, finishing inside the top 20. A good sign in view of his home race, next week, in Thailand.

MOTO3: TAIYO FURUSATO #72
Grid 9 -Race 7

furusato 2024

Today, I did everything I could, but there were some factors beyond my control in the race. I tried to stay calm, but in these group battles, it’s tough when things are out of your hands. I pushed to the maximum, but in races with such a large group of riders, you need to stay calm and manage the pressure. A small mistake can cost you everything.
I’m happy with some aspects, like how the bike performed and how close we were to the top at certain moments. However, I’m also frustrated because I know our potential, and I’m aware we could have done even better here. I’m highly motivated for the next race in Thailand, and I will give my best to achieve a strong result in Buriram.

MOTO3: TATCHAKORN BUASRI #5
Grid 26- Race 20

buasri 2024

This race was particularly difficult for me, as the windy conditions made it difficult to perform at my best. It was a tough weekend, but I won’t make excuses. I’ll work hard with my team to fix my weaknesses and improve in all the aspects. The next race is my home Grand Prix, and I’m highly motivated to deliver a strong performance in front of our fans. I recognize my mistakes and apologize to the team for them, as their hard work deserves better. I’ll give everything I have to ensure a good race in Thailand.

HIROSHI AOYAMA – Team Manager

We witnessed an incredibly thrilling 21-lap race with numerous overtakes and constant position changes, keeping the excitement alive until the very end. Taiyo Furusato was in the fight for the podium, which was thrilling to see. However, in the final laps, he lost some positions and, despite his efforts to recover, it wasn’t quite enough to reach the podium. He had the speed and potential for a better result, but we fell short in the final laps. This is an area we will focus on improving.
Tatchakorn Buasri struggled with the windy conditions, and the gap between his best lap time and his average lap time was significant. He needs to be more consistent to stay in the group fighting for points. The next race will be his home Grand Prix, so we are hopeful both riders will perform well, and we look forward to a strong performance in Thailand.
